This was my first year using Daily 5, and after we started doing multiple rounds per day, I noticed that they were having trouble choosing what to do each round, because they couldn't remember what they had already been to. We brainstormed different ways to keep track, and we ultimately decided that I had to keep track in my Daily 5 binder, but that they also wanted a chart. So, I created little cards and copied them on to different colors of cardstock, which they then cut out. This made the process of choosing centers so much easier! Taking the board apart was also one of the daily jobs in the morning.

The Beginning
Many years ago, I tried to put together a website where I could document and share the ideas I was using with my class, but time never seemed to be on my side with keeping it updated. For a few years, I did really well keeping a website up to date for my own class, but as I took on the role of webmaster for my school, that website fell to the wayside as well. Many of my colleagues have mentioned that I should have a teaching blog, so here it is. I know how much I appreciate the efforts of other teachers who share their ideas, and hopefully I can do the same for others. Getting started over the summer might just be enough to encourage me to keep going next year!
